    Brief Background and Contributions to UNIDIR

    John leads UNIDIR's research work. His working experiences have covered many aspects of arms control, disarmament and humanitarian affairs, and he has published extensively on these and related topics, from nuclear weapons risk and nuclear arms control to cluster munitions, armed drones and autonomous weapons. He has a D Phil from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, and a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Prior to joining UNIDIR, John worked on weapons issues at the International Committee of the Red Cross. Before that, he was a New Zealand disarmament diplomat.
